Holding an Explanatory Workshop on Use of Socio- Demographic and Economic Survey Data by the Central Statistics Organization in Balkh Province

An Explanatory Workshop on how to use the Balkh Socio - Demographic and Economic Survey Data in design of Policies and Plans, was held on Tuesday with attendance of the Financial and Administrative Deputy of the CSO and his delegations, Mr. Malyar Kakar, representative of the Balkh Governor, Dr. Bashir Najib, Representative of the United Nations Population Fund for Afghanistan(UNFPA), the report writing team of the Organization and General Directors of Plan for the second Units and districts of Balkh province.

Firstly, Mr. Mir Mohammad Kazem Habibi, the financial and administrative deputy of the Central Statistics Organization, spoke concerning the workshop, and pointed out that the CSO is obliged to collect the data based on its responsibility that these data are collected in two ways by this Organization. He stated that one of these data is the Administrative data that is indirectly collected by data producers, and the second type is the data which are collected through the implementation of surveys.

Mr. Habibi added that one of the surveys of this Organization, in which the figures are even collected at the small unit (village), is the Socio- Demographic and Economic Survey, which fortunately the survey was implemented in Balkh province by the Central Statistics Organization in 2016 with the technical assistance of the United Nations Population Fund for Afghanistan (UNFPA).

The financial and administrative deputy of the central statistics Organization added that as collecting these data is very important for the design and arrangement of effective and fruitful plans, it is equally valuable to find out about its indicators, so that every Institution is aware of their respective figures and can better arrange their plans

The workshop, which was began on the 18th July, continued for two days, in which 80 officials, especially general directors of plan for the second units and districts of Balkh province were taken part, during this time presentations about different indicators such as, fertility, education, gender, higher education, immigration, disability and labor force have been presented by the report writing team for explanations and information and in order to better understand everything and use the results of this survey. Practical and group work was also taken place.

It should be noted that the preliminary work of the Balkh Socio- Demographic and Economic Survey, was began in late 2015, and was successfully completed in 2016, which after the analysis and compilation its preliminary report also released in the same year during a ceremony with the participation of the authorities from Balkh Province, in the Central Statistics Organization.

Balkh is the ninth province where the Socio- Demographic and Economic Survey has been implemented.
