Launch of the Statistical Management Information System (SMIS) at the Central Statistics Office

A ceremony was held on the occasion of the launch of the Statistical Management Information System (SMIS) today morning which was attended by HE. Shir Mohammad Jamizada, Acting President General of the Central Statistics Organization, Financial and Administrative Deputy minister of the Ministry of Communication  and Information Technology, Head of UN Women in Afghanistan, Professional Deputy minister, of the Ministry of Women Affairs, a number of Deputies  and Plan Department Heads of the governmental Ministries and Organizations, representatives from Institutions and International Organizations, as well as staff members of the Central Statistics Organization.

Firstly, Engineer Shir Mohammad Jamizada, meanwhile welcoming the participants gave information about the system, and added that work on the statistical information management system began ten months ago, which after a series of work we could  complete this system. He noted that with the creation of this system, the data which was previously collected from the ministries and organizations through sending the forms, after this the official data will be collected online from all the organs. Mr Jamizada continued, using this system, will make us able to collect the quality and timely data, which after analysis and harmonization the figures and information will be available for the users in the shortest time.

Then, Mr. Mohammad Hadi Hedayati, Financial and Administrative Deputy of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, also mentioned the launch of the Statistical Information Management System as one more step towards e-government, and pointed out that with the opening of this system, we will be witness of transparency, precision and speed in data gathering.

Mrs. Spozhmay Wardak Professional Deputy of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Mrs. Rebica Towaris, Director of the UN Women in Afghanistan, counted the launch of the system as an important step towards E-making of data gathering process in various sectors, especially in gender classifications for design and planning of their offices. The Head of UN Women was committed to continue their cooperation with the Central Statistics Organization.

Afterward, Mr. Abdul Wali Wafi Head of Information Technology of the CSO presented information concerning the technical aspects of the system and noted that, the system is designed in to four sections: Data transferring, Creating reports, Dashboard management and Archiving or e- library.

It is mentionable that the statistical management information system of the CSO, has been launched by the financial and technical assistance of the UN Women Organization, which took over ten months of work on the system.
